Overview: Congress Lake Club is a private course in Hartville, Ohio, set beside a large kettle lake and mature wooded ground. The club’s golf identity includes a Donald Ross course, traditional parkland corridors, and a broader country-club landscape that has long treated the lake as a central feature.
History: Congress Lake was organized in 1892 as the Canton Outing Club and incorporated in 1896. Several golfing grounds were developed over time, including courses associated with Willie Park Jr. and Donald Ross; the present club preserves that layered architectural history beside the lake.
Did You Know? William McKinley, then governor of Ohio and later President of the United States, served on the club’s board. The lake also hosted a world championship bass-fishing competition in 1919, the same year the original clubhouse opened.
