Overview: Colony West’s Championship Course is the long, tournament-bred 18-hole layout in Tamarac. Bruce Devlin and Robert von Hagge shaped a demanding parkland course with narrow fairways, water, bunkers, and an island-green signature hole; the current course page lists 7,258 yards and par 71.
History: The course opened in 1971 for the Jackie Gleason Classic, originally as a 7,553-yard par-72 design. It was softened before the event, then shortened and converted to par 70 when the clubhouse was built in 1981. Later scorecards and the current course page show the modern par-71 configuration.
Did You Know? The original tournament brief was so severe that Jack Nicklaus and the tournament committee asked for changes before the Jackie Gleason Classic. The signature 12th hole still asks for a tee shot through cypress forest toward an island green.
