Overview: Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, is one of the most historic and prestigious courses in the United States. Known as "Hogan's Alley," the course is a "shotmaker's" masterpiece characterized by its tight, tree-lined fairways, exceptionally small greens, and the famous "Horrible Horseshoe" (holes 3, 4, and 5). It offers a refined and rigorous test of golf that rewards precision and creativity over raw power.
History: Opened in 1936, Colonial was a revolutionary design by John Bredemus and Perry Maxwell that featured the first bentgrass greens in the South. It has been the permanent host of the PGA Tour's Charles Schwab Challenge since its inception, making it one of the most recognizable and beloved stops on the tour. The course was meticulously renovated in 2023 by Gil Hanse to modernize the strategic elements while preserving its classic feel.
Did You Know? Ben Hogan won five times at Colonial, and his presence is felt throughout the club, from the statue near the clubhouse to the tournament trophy room.
