Overview: The Championship Course at Colbert Hills is a links-style layout in Manhattan's Flint Hills, designed by Jeff Brauer with eight-time PGA Tour winner and Kansas State alumnus Jim Colbert. Rolling hills, native tallgrass, treeless fairways, large greens and broad views create a distinctly Kansas setting. At 7,525 yards and par 72, the course is challenging without relying on narrow corridors: generous landing areas are balanced by wind, prairie rough, bunkers, creeks and the many angles available around the putting surfaces.
History: Colbert Hills was developed as a new home for Kansas State golf and broke ground on May 1, 2000, with Jim Colbert joined by notable professional golfers for the opening ceremony. Colbert and Brauer laid out the course across roughly 315 acres, preserving the rolling Flint Hills terrain and native tallgrass rather than erasing its character. The course quickly became a major collegiate venue and has hosted Kansas State golf, the 2003 NCAA Central Regional and regular championship events. Its history is also connected to youth golf through the First Tee of Manhattan and the Earl Woods National Youth Golf Academy.
Did You Know? The fifth hole includes a bunker complex shaped like a Kansas State Wildcat paw print, an architectural signature that ties the course directly to Jim Colbert's university history. The course's large greens average more than 7,000 square feet.
