Overview: The Coast Golf Club is an oceanfront 18-hole course at Little Bay, about 12 kilometres south of Sydney's CBD. The club describes a par 70 links-style layout with ocean views from every hole. Wind is a major design feature: the opening tee shots point in different directions, and the coastal cliffs can make the same club selection feel completely different from one hour to the next. Public play is available seven days a week.
History: The former Prince Henry Hospital had a small golf course for staff recreation from about 1922. The Coast Golf and Recreation Club officially opened in May 1965, when hospital, university and local members began restoring the site. The course became a full 18-hole layout by the early 1970s, and later residential development led to redesign work on holes including the seventh and tenth.
Did You Know? The clubhouse occupies the former hospital laundry, a heritage building that was adapted for the club. That gives The Coast a rare combination of coastal golf and institutional history. The view is spectacular, but the course's strongest identity is the way each hole responds to a different compass direction and a different wind.
