Overview: North of Madrid, Club Jarama R.A.C.E. offers a mature 18-hole setting in San Sebastián de los Reyes. Javier Arana designed the routing through a mature landscape of holm oaks and pines, with broad fairways, large greens and enough change in ground to keep the round moving. The course does not depend on dramatic elevation or resort theatrics. Its challenge comes from the relationship between tree lines, landing zones and approach angles, with the best score usually built through disciplined positioning. Sierra de Guadarrama views appear beyond the course, but the immediate character is intimate and wooded, making Jarama feel like an established country estate rather than a new development.
History: The club was founded in 1967 and the course is associated with Javier Arana, one of Spain's most influential twentieth-century golf architects. From the outset, the design balanced a competition-ready layout with the mature landscape of the RACE estate. The club has hosted professional and national events, including the PGA Open, while continuing to develop as a private sporting institution. The long history is visible in the trees and in the way the routing has settled into its surroundings.
Did You Know? The RFEG description records 59 bunkers, wide fairways and broad greens at Jarama. That combination explains the course's particular balance: the tee shot can feel generous, but the number and placement of bunkers still make the next decision important. The surrounding holm oaks then turn a relatively open hole into a more precise approach challenge.
