Overview: Club de Golf Vallromanes is an 18-hole par-72 course north of Barcelona, laid out across the valley and lower foothills around Vallromanes. The club lists 6,044 metres from the white tees, approximately 6,616 yards, and credits F.W. Hawtree with the design. The two nines have noticeably different sensations: the opening side moves through the valley, while the second nine climbs toward the mountain foothills. That change of landscape gives the course a stronger sense of progression than a uniform parkland circuit and makes positioning important throughout the round.
History: The club’s history places the presentation of the project in March 1971, when construction of the 18-hole course was already advanced. Current club information gives September 1972 as the opening date, and the course has since become one of the established golf venues serving Barcelona’s metropolitan area. Hawtree’s routing works with the existing terrain rather than flattening it: the lower holes use the valley, and the return brings the golfer into more elevated ground with wider views across the surrounding landscape.
Did You Know? Vallromanes is known for very large greens, a feature noted in the federation description and central to the course’s strategy. A green may offer several possible pin positions, but the correct angle from the fairway can matter more than simply finding the putting surface. The club also occupies the historic Torre Tavernera estate, whose masia is used as the clubhouse, so a round combines Hawtree’s golf architecture with a substantial piece of the site’s older agricultural and architectural setting.
