Overview: In the Empordà region of Girona, Club de Golf Peralada presents a relaxed parkland test over 18 holes near the French border. Jordi Soler Peix designed a layout that combines open fairways with mature trees, water features and the gentle agricultural landscape of northern Catalonia. The course is approachable in appearance, but its green approaches and changing angles reward players who think their way around the holes. Five par threes, four par fives and nine par fours create a varied scorecard, while the surrounding wine country gives the course a strong regional identity. It is a course built for rhythm and placement, not just for a sequence of isolated signature holes.
History: Peralada opened in 1993 and became part of a broader destination that includes the resort, wine cellars, castle and spa. From the start, the course was designed to respect its environmental setting. It later became the first golf course in Europe to obtain EMAS environmental certification, an important part of its history because the course's relationship with the surrounding landscape is central to its identity. The original 18-hole course remains the main competitive layout, with a separate nine-hole pitch-and-putt facility completing the golf offering.
Did You Know? The 18-hole scorecard is divided into two loops: the first is par 36 and the second par 35. Its hole mix of five par threes, four par fives and nine par fours gives the full round a par of 71, a small structural detail that helps make Peralada's routing different from a standard two-times-par-36 design.
