Overview: Club de Golf Escorpión is a 27-hole private complex in Bétera, north-west of Valencia, laid out as three nine-hole loops that can be combined into three different 18-hole courses. This profile covers Los Lagos, the nine that the Spanish federation describes as a par 35 routing of 2,805 metres. The loop moves through gently undulating Mediterranean ground, with mature trees, broad playing corridors and water entering the strategy on five holes. The setting is shaped by the Sierra Calderona landscape rather than by a flat resort aesthetic: the trees frame the lines of play, while lakes create decisions around club selection and landing areas. The result is a compact nine that asks players to manage position and angles instead of simply chasing distance.
History: The Escorpión club was founded in 1975, and the federation credits the course design to Ron Kirby. Kirby’s work is best understood as a family of related loops: La Masía, Los Lagos and Los Nuevos each has its own par and character, yet the three can be assembled into varied 18-hole combinations. On the Lagos nine, the official card gives par 35 and 2,805 metres; the directory yardage here is the rounded imperial conversion of that published figure. The arrangement explains why older descriptions sometimes present Escorpión as an 18-hole course while local and federation material refer to its full 27-hole layout.
Did You Know? The Lagos loop is not a shortened version of another course: it is one of Escorpión’s three distinct nines. Its par 35 card includes three par threes, four par fours and two par fives, and five holes bring lakes into play. Those details make the loop a small study in variety, with the water hazards changing the rhythm from hole to hole.
