Overview: Club de Golf Chapultepec is a private 18-hole course in Naucalpan, immediately west of Mexico City. The layout is known for tree-lined fairways, undulating ground and the unusual effect of high elevation on ball flight. Its original design is associated with Willie and Alex Smith, while Percy Clifford substantially renovated the course in 1972. The setting combines a mature parkland feel with the strategic demands of a championship venue, making distance control and thoughtful club selection especially important.
History: The course opened in 1921 and became one of Mexico’s most important tournament venues. It hosted the Mexican Open on numerous occasions, and the modern course was the site of the WGC-Mexico Championship from 2017 through 2020. Current LIV Golf material also documents recent renovation work by Greg Norman. Because tournament setups have used different pars and tee configurations, this profile keeps the member course’s par and yardage open rather than presenting one competition card as the universal current figure.
Did You Know? Chapultepec’s elevation is a genuine part of its identity, not just a statistic. PGA Tour mapping placed the property roughly between 7,603 and 7,835 feet above sea level, while LIV describes the course as the highest-elevation venue on its schedule. At that height, the ball can travel farther than players expect, so the course’s tight tree-lined corridors reward accurate distance judgment as much as power.
