Overview: Club Campestre San Jose Golf Course is an 18-hole private course in the foothills of the Sierra de la Laguna near San José del Cabo. Nicklaus Design shaped the routing through desert arroyos and the lower mountain landscape, with views toward the Sea of Cortez. The course forms the centrepiece of a 550-acre master-planned community, so its setting combines dramatic natural terrain with the facilities and homes of a private Baja development. The contrast between green paspalum fairways, dry landforms and blue water is central to the experience.
History: Nicklaus Design records the course as opening in 2007. From the beginning, golf was planned as the centre of Club Campestre San Jose rather than as an isolated daily-fee facility, with the surrounding community, clubhouse and beach club developing around it. The current master plan continues that connection and describes the course as part of a larger Baja retreat. The profile does not assign unsupported par or yardage figures because the club’s current public material focuses on the master plan rather than a single stable scorecard.
Did You Know? Nicklaus Design’s description places the 18 holes among desert arroyos in the foothills, so the routing’s defining contrast is between green paspalum playing surfaces and the dry channels that frame them. The Sea of Cortez is visible from the elevated terrain, but the course is not simply an ocean-view layout. Its playing character comes from asking golfers to read mountain slopes, arroyo edges and changing sightlines together.
