Overview: Club Campestre Cocoyoc is an 18-hole par-72 parkland course in Lomas de Cocoyoc, about 90 kilometres from Mexico City. The club’s current page lists 6,287 yards and credits Mario Schjetnan with the Campo Largo design. The course is set among open natural ground with views toward the surrounding hills and volcanoes, giving the round a broad central-Mexico character. Its length is moderate by championship standards, but the combination of elevation, changing views and the warm Morelos climate makes placement and approach control more important than simply chasing distance.
History: Cocoyoc developed as a golf club within the Lomas de Cocoyoc residential community and now presents both a full-length course and a separate short layout. The distinction is explicit in the current club information: Campo Largo is the 18-hole Mario Schjetnan course, while the Campo Corto is a nine-hole par-27 design by Pedro Werecka. That separation is retained here so the directory’s main course does not absorb facts from the shorter practice-oriented routing.
Did You Know? Cocoyoc’s elevated Morelos setting keeps the surrounding hills and volcanoes in the visual field from the course. The official club description treats those landforms as part of the property’s identity, and they help explain the layout’s changing sense of scale: a fairway can feel open at ground level while the wider landscape makes the approach appear more exposed. It is a playing character created by the relationship between parkland holes and the volcanic horizon.
