Overview: Club Altozano Morelia is an 18-hole private course in the Altozano development on the southern side of Morelia. The club’s current page lists 7,564 yards and describes the course as part of a wider members’ club with extensive sports and family facilities. Designer records connect the course to Carter Morrish and Rafael Alarcón. Its highland setting and broad views over the surrounding landscape give it a mountain-course character, while the scale of the layout makes it a serious full-length test for members and their guests.
History: The course record dates the Morelia layout to 2008, when Altozano was developing as a major residential and lifestyle project. Golf was planned as one of the club’s central activities rather than a standalone daily-fee attraction. The later club facilities, including the Hoyo 19 restaurant and terrace, reinforce that idea by framing the golf course as the centre of a larger community. The designers’ project portfolio also places Altozano Morelia alongside their other Mexican work.
Did You Know? The Hoyo 19 building was designed around views toward the Morelia valley and uses stone recovered from infrastructure work on the site in its gabion-like walls. It is a small but telling detail: the club’s architecture deliberately ties the post-round experience to the same landscape that shapes the golf course. Altozano Morelia therefore continues its mountain setting beyond the fairways, into the clubhouse and terrace where the round finishes.
