Overview: On the Cape Peninsula in Fish Hoek, Cape Town, Clovelly presents an 18-hole parkland layout. The routing sits between the Silvermine mountains and the coast, with wind, sand, water and elevated greens shaping the experience. The club’s official history identifies C. M. Murray and R. Grimsdale as the designers of the 18-hole course; the official course layout lists 5,794 metres from the yellow tees, converted here to approximately 6,336 yards.
History: Clovelly began as a 9-hole course in the 1920s, was rescued and developed on the former Klein Tuin farm, and had an 18-hole course by 1933. The club was officially opened in 1934, giving the present course a history that combines early volunteer effort, local land and a long-running Cape golf tradition.
Did You Know? Early Clovelly golfers sometimes used red balls so they could find them more easily in the sandy terrain, then helped plant grass on the course after their rounds.
