Overview: Claremont Country Club is a compact private parkland course in Oakland's hills. Its par-68 routing uses mature vegetation, changes in elevation and tightly shaped greens to create interest without a long scorecard. The setting is close to the East Bay urban area, but the course feels defined by its hillside land and old trees.
History: The club was founded in 1897, and the course history records a nine-hole opening in December 1904 followed by an 18-hole layout in 1909. Alister MacKenzie reshaped the course in the mid-1920s, with further work continuing into the late 1920s. This profile uses 1904 for the first documented course stage.
Did You Know? Claremont's restoration deliberately consulted an historic aerial image instead of treating the existing course as the only guide. That approach helps explain why several modern playing surfaces can retain a sense of the earlier MacKenzie-era landscape.
