Overview: Chukyo Golf Club Ishino Course occupies 120 hectares in the hilly country around Toyota, within reach of the Korankei area and the Yahagi River. The official course guide gives the routing 18 holes, par 72 and 6,870 yards from the back tees. Its character comes from the way elevation, forest and water are layered together. Several holes fall away from the tee, others climb into the approach, and the course repeatedly asks the player to choose whether to challenge a bunker, lay back before a creek or take on a more direct line. The greens and their surrounds make the second shot especially important.
History: Construction began in February 1991, the course was completed in July 1993 and the club opened on 7 October that year. The official construction record credits Pete Dye with course supervision and Tameji Yamada with design and management, assisted by Yahagi Green. That division of roles matters: Ishino carries a Dye-influenced strategic vocabulary, but its documented Japanese design and project-management history is more specific than the simple label of a Pete Dye course.
Did You Know? The 11th hole includes a cedar tree described by the club as roughly 200 years old, standing behind the green and changing the player's sense of distance. The 18th then brings a broad creek across the fairway, with the official guide describing both a conventional route that manages the water and a more ambitious line for two strong shots. Those two holes give the closing stretch a memorable architectural conversation between restraint and attack.
