Overview: Christman’s Windham House Mountain Course is an 18-hole resort layout in the Catskills town of Windham. At about 7,150 yards and par 72, it is a full championship-scale course with steep changes in elevation, wooded slopes, streams, ponds and broad mountain views. The first four holes climb through an old maple sugar bush, while the middle of the round reaches higher ground before the closing holes descend toward the resort. The result is a course where the landscape is present in nearly every club choice.
History: The Christman family built the Mountain Course in stages from 1991 to 2003, developing the 200-acre property as part of Windham House’s resort offering. Reviewed course data identifies Stanley Christman as the designer, and the present routing is closely tied to the family’s hands-on development of the land. The course’s history is therefore not a single instant opening story, but a long construction project that turned Catskills terrain into a substantial 18-hole destination.
Did You Know? The 11th hole is a 620-yard double dogleg, making it one of the defining long holes in the Catskills. The course then gradually brings the player down the mountain before a final tee shot over a dropping, terraced fairway.
