Overview: Henderson's Tuscany community is home to Chimera Golf Club, an 18-hole public course, designed by Ted Robinson Jr. The 6,757-yard layout uses forgiving fairways, playable desert terrain and changing elevation to create a round that is approachable without becoming featureless. Views extend toward the Las Vegas Strip, downtown, Sunrise Mountain and Mount Charleston, while the greens and bunkers add the sharper edge to the routing.
History: Robinson designed the course in 2003, although the opening was delayed after construction was completed and the project became entangled in lawsuits and permitting problems. The course eventually joined the Tuscany golf community and developed into a public Henderson facility. That delayed start is part of its identity, since the finished routing combines a planned residential setting with broad, open desert views.
Did You Know? The sixth is Chimera's longest par three, playing more than 200 yards from the back tee toward the Sunrise and Frenchman Mountains. It is a good example of how the course uses a mountain panorama to heighten a shot that is otherwise a straightforward test of long-iron or hybrid distance.
