Overview: Chickasaw Country Club is a classic Memphis parkland course whose William Langford design occupies a compact, mature setting in East Memphis. The 18-hole, par-72 layout is framed by established trees and narrow playing corridors, so the best lines are often found through positioning rather than force. Its character comes from the contrast between the old routing and the sharp, tournament-ready green complexes, with TifEagle putting surfaces adding a modern maintenance chapter to a course rooted in the Golden Age of American architecture.
History: Chickasaw was founded in 1922 and remains one of Memphis's longstanding private golf institutions. Langford's original design was substantially renovated in 2018 by Bill Bergin, who worked to restore the character of the classic layout while updating its playing surfaces and infrastructure. That balance between preservation and improvement is central to the course's modern identity. Chickasaw also has a place in the city's professional golf history through the Memphis Invitational, which brought a major tournament to the club in the 1940s.
Did You Know? Chickasaw hosted the 1945 Memphis Invitational, the event associated with the end of Byron Nelson's record run of 11 consecutive PGA Tour victories. The tournament gives this quiet Memphis club a notable connection to one of the most remarkable streaks in professional golf.
