Overview: Chevy Chase Country Club occupies a wooded canyon setting in Glendale, where the 18-hole, par-67 course uses narrow corridors, elevation changes and small target greens. William P. “Billy” Bell’s original design is read today through the canyon land and the later work that refined its routing, rather than through length alone.
History: The club dates its establishment to 1925 and credits William P. “Billy” Bell with the original course design. A later account records Harry Rainville redesigning the course in 1960. Those are separate chapters in the layout’s history, so both names are retained here rather than treating the later work as the original opening.
Did You Know? Chevy Chase’s canyon setting is central to its identity. The course sits close to Glendale’s urban fabric, yet its fairways and tree-lined slopes create a more enclosed round than the broad desert layouts elsewhere in Southern California.
