Overview: Overlooking Chautauqua Lake, the Hill Course at Chautauqua Golf Club offers a parkland routing of 18 holes. Xen Hassenplug designed the course to use the higher ground, tree-lined fairways and frequent doglegs, with small greens that make approach placement central to the round. It measures 6,413 yards at par 72 from the blue tees. The course is scenic without being purely decorative, because the slopes and changing views continually alter the best line into the next shot.
History: The Hill Course was built in 1994 as the second 18-hole course at the Chautauqua property. Its designer, Xen Hassenplug, also worked on major American golf projects, and the course brought a newer, more elevated style to a facility already anchored by Donald Ross’s older Lake Course. Together the two layouts created a 36-hole destination beside Chautauqua Lake, with the Hill offering a distinct test shaped by terrain, trees and sightlines.
Did You Know? The Hill’s higher ground provides views of both Chautauqua Lake and the countryside beyond it. Several holes also use doglegs and small targets to turn those scenic positions into decisions about where to place the next shot.
