Overview: Chartwell Golf & Country Club in Severna Park, Maryland, is a parkland course designed by Edmund B. Ault and Al Jamison. Winding through rolling hills and mature stands of hardwoods, the layout features tree-lined fairways, strategic sand bunkers, and contoured greens that test the player's short game, iron play, and course strategy on every hole of this challenging and beautifully designed layout.
History: Opened in 1961, the course was designed to offer a traditional golf experience. Architect Bill Love led a major renovation in 2013 that updated the greens to USGA standards and modernized the bunker complexes. A subsequent renovation was completed in 2019 to improve turf quality.
Did You Know? The walk-friendly layout features well-placed sand bunkers that demand both precise club selection and strategic play, making it a popular venue for regional amateur qualifiers. The club has worked to establish a sustainable water use plan, using on-course ponds to capture and recycle rainwater for irrigation.
