Overview: Chambers Bay is a public, walking-only links course on the Puget Sound in University Place. Robert Trent Jones II shaped the 18-hole layout across a reclaimed sand-and-gravel mine, using tawny fescue, dunes, broad fairways and large rolling greens to make the land's industrial history part of the golf.
History: Pierce County acquired the former quarry site in 1992, and Chambers Bay opened in 2007 as the centerpiece of a 930-acre county park. The course quickly moved onto the championship stage, hosting the 2010 U.S. Amateur and the 2015 U.S. Open.
Did You Know? The 2015 U.S. Open at Chambers Bay was the first U.S. Open in the Pacific Northwest and the first played on fine fescue greens. The official current scorecard lists the black tees at 7,158 yards and par 72; the longer 7,742-yard figure belongs to an earlier championship setup.
