Overview: Centurion Golf Club combines three contrasting ideas within one 18-hole par-72 round: open parkland, waste-desert areas and holes where water surrounds the playing line. Peter Matkovich’s design sits in a residential setting near Irene, but the variety of surfaces and the Hennops River influence prevent it from feeling like a uniform estate course. From the men’s club markers it measures about 6,373 metres.
History: The course opened in 1995 as part of the Centurion residential estate and was built as one of Peter Matkovich’s early Gauteng designs. The club’s own course information records 44 bunkers and ten holes where the Hennops River or estate lakes come into play. The result is a layout that uses modern residential-golf ingredients while retaining a clear South African inland identity.
Did You Know? The long second hole is one of the course’s talking points. It is a demanding par four that reaches roughly 465 metres, yet the area around the green is notably free of both a bunker and a water hazard, placing the emphasis on distance control and the quality of the approach.
