Overview: The Montgomerie Course at Celtic Manor is an undulating parkland layout in the Usk Valley, designed by Colin Montgomerie. Elevated tees, deep pot bunkers and downhill approaches give the course a strong visual rhythm, while its Scottish links influence is expressed through the shaping of the ground and the demand for creative positioning. Views across the Severn Estuary add scale to a route that changes elevation throughout the round.
History: The Montgomerie Course opened in 2007 as part of the Celtic Manor resort's three-course golf complex. Colin Montgomerie drew on his Ryder Cup experience and Scottish golfing background when shaping the design, using a parkland setting to create a course with links-inspired bunkering and strategic tee shots.
Did You Know? The third hole is included in the golf reference title 1001 Golf Holes You Must Play Before You Die. It is a fitting selection for a course whose identity is built around a dramatic tee shot, a valley setting and the need to manage a deep change in elevation.
