Overview: Cedar River Golf Club is a public resort course at Shanty Creek in northern Michigan. Tom Weiskopf’s first Michigan design uses glacially shaped hillsides, wider fairways and natural elevation changes to create a scenic but playable resort layout.
History: Cedar River opened in the late 1990s as part of Shanty Creek’s expansion into destination golf. Weiskopf designed the course to follow the existing landforms rather than flattening the property into a conventional resort grid.
Did You Know? Cedar River is described as Weiskopf’s first course in Michigan. The design’s wide playing corridors are an intentional contrast to the tighter, more penal resort layouts found elsewhere in the region.
