Overview: The Dogwood Course at the Country Club of North Carolina is an Ellis Maples design in Pinehurst's Sandhills. Its long fairway corridors, pine forest and traditional green work reflect the region's older golf vocabulary. The course is private and is one of several routings at CCNC, so the Dogwood label is important for accurate comparisons.
History: CCNC's official history says the original Longleaf and Dogwood courses opened in December 1963, with additional golf added later. The club has hosted events including the 1980 U.S. Amateur, the 2010 U.S. Girls' Junior and the 2021 U.S. Junior Amateur, establishing the property as a recurring amateur championship venue.
Did You Know? CCNC's early founders worked with Willard Byrd and Ellis Maples, and the Dogwood course belongs to that first 1963 phase. The Cardinal is a separate routing formed later with a Robert Trent Jones Sr. nine, not a renamed Dogwood course.
