Overview: Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland, is a parkland layout set within the rolling hills of the Caves Valley region. Designed by Tom Fazio, the course winds through native woodlands, open meadows, and natural wetlands. The design features wide, contoured bentgrass fairways, deep bunkers, and fast, multi-tiered greens that challenge players on every shot, requiring strategic positioning and precise distance control.
History: Opened in 1991, the club was founded with a dedicated focus on the game of golf, avoiding residential development on the property. Fazio utilized the diverse topography to create a course that immediately gained recognition. The club hosted the 2002 U.S. Senior Open, the 2014 International Crown, and the 2021 BMW Championship.
Did You Know? During the 2021 BMW Championship, Patrick Cantlay and Bryson DeChambeau played an epic six-hole playoff on the course, with Cantlay ultimately claiming victory under near-dark conditions. The dramatic duel drew massive crowds and highlighted the strategic risk-reward options built into Fazio's back-nine routing, making it one of the most memorable playoffs in recent championship golf history.
