Overview: Catamount Ranch Golf Club is a private 18-hole Tom Weiskopf course in the high country south of Steamboat Springs. The routing moves through alpine meadows, active ranch ground, tree-lined stretches beside Walton Creek and higher hillside holes with long views across the valley. At par 72 and 7,088 yards, it has the scale of a championship course, but the design remains closely tied to the working landscape and the changes in elevation that make each section play differently.
History: Catamount was conceived as a ranch-based golf community in the late 1990s, with grading and early course work under way by 1999. The 18-hole Weiskopf course opened in 2001 and was designed to appear discovered within the high-country setting rather than imposed upon it. The larger property now separates the golf area from Lake Catamount, but the original course still carries the ranch, meadow and mountain relationships that shaped its development.
Did You Know? Catamount’s environmental programme is part of the course’s documented identity. The layout is sanctioned by the Audubon Society, and its design moves through wetlands, lakes and open meadows while preserving the visual connection to the surrounding peaks. It is a useful example of mountain golf where environmental sensitivity and strategic interest are designed together.
