Overview: Set within a historic, wooded estate near Lake Maggiore, the Castagni (Chestnut) course at Castelconturbia Golf Club is an exceptional parkland masterpiece designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. The layout features gently undulating fairways lined by centennial chestnuts, oaks, and pines, with signature Trent Jones bunkering protecting large, heavily contoured greens. The course offers a classic, strategic challenge where strategic angles and precise distance control are essential to navigate the tree-lined corridors and water hazards.
History: The modern 27-hole complex at Castelconturbia was built in 1986 on the site of a historic 19th-century course, commissioning Robert Trent Jones Sr. to craft a world-class championship venue. The club immediately became a premier host for Italian professional golf, playing host to the Italian Open in 1991 and 1998, won by Craig Parry and Jose Maria Olazabal respectively.
Did You Know? The course offers breathtaking views of the nearby Monte Rosa massif on clear days, providing a majestic alpine backdrop that contrasts beautifully with the lush, manicured parkland fairways.
