Overview: Carrington Estate’s 18-hole course occupies the Karikari Peninsula in Northland, where ocean views meet vineyard hills and rolling inland ground. Matt Dye’s par-72 design measures 6,417 metres and moves through a range of terrain rather than following a single seaside template. The course can feel open around the higher ridges, then tighten around water and approach areas. A long par five and a short par three over water give the scorecard an unusual change of scale.
History: The tournament-standard course was opened on 15 December 2003 as part of the Carrington destination development. The project combined a resort, vineyard, beaches and golf on a large working property. Matt Dye’s routing was intended to look inland from many playing positions even though the Pacific is close by, using rolling vales and natural water to create a full resort round rather than a flat coastal loop.
Did You Know? The 18th-hole experience includes two memorable extremes on the card. The club highlights a par five of roughly 569 metres and a short par three of about 50 metres over water, so the course asks for both patient three-shot planning and precise distance control.
