Overview: At Carnoustie Golf Links - Burnside Course, the links profile for Carnoustie Golf Links - Burnside Course is listed at 6028 yards and par 68. It has the same exposed coastal turf and the Barry Burn as its more famous neighbour, but a different scale and rhythm. The fairways thread through dunes and rough, and the burn can turn an apparently straightforward hole into a careful exercise in line and distance. The shorter card does not remove the need for precision: firm approaches, changing wind and tight landing areas make placement more important than raw power.
History: Golf on the Burnside ground developed in stages from the late nineteenth century. The layout became a full 18-hole course in 1914, was further lengthened and was officially named the Burnside Course in 1934. James Braid is associated with the course in the directory and with the wider development of Carnoustie’s layouts. The Burnside remains a distinct course, offering a historic Carnoustie experience without being a substitute name for the Championship course.
Did You Know? Carnoustie’s three principal courses share the same wider links but not the same test. Burnside is the shortest card of the group at par 68, while the Championship and Buddon routings create different strategic problems from the same coastal landscape.
