Overview: The Wild Atlantic Dunes course at Carne Golf Links is one of the most rugged and visually spectacular links designs in the world. Situated on the remote Mullet Peninsula in County Mayo, the layout weaves through massive, towering sand dunes. The course presents a dramatic, windswept test of golf with blind shots, dramatic elevation shifts, and breathtaking panoramas of Blacksod Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.
History: Carne Golf Links began in 1892 with the founding of the club, but the first course, designed by Eddie Hackett, did not open until 1993. In 2013, the club added the Kilmore nine, designed by Jim Engh and Ally McIntosh. The Wild Atlantic Dunes layout was formalized in 2020 as a composite course combining the Kilmore nine with Hackett's original back nine.
Did You Know? Carne is one of the last courses designed by the legendary Eddie Hackett, who was known for letting the natural contours of the land dictate the holes. The monumental sand dunes on the Mullet Peninsula are among the tallest in Europe, reaching heights of up to 150 feet above sea level.
