Overview: Carmelo Golf Club is an 18-hole resort course near Carmelo in Uruguay's Colonia department. Designed across a broad landscape of wetlands, pines, eucalyptus, lakes and vineyards near the Río de la Plata and Uruguay River, it offers a spacious natural setting rather than a tightly enclosed city layout. The club's official scorecard lists par 72 and 7,158 yards from the gold tees.
History: The 18 holes were inaugurated in 2000. From the end of 2010 the course became the home of Carmelo Golf Club, and the club's official site identifies it as a venue for World Amateur Golf Ranking events, PGA Uruguay competitions and other important tournaments. The design is attributed to Randy Thompson and Kelly Moran of American Golf Course Design Company.
Did You Know? Carmelo Golf is built on a roughly 270-hectare property near the meeting of the Río de la Plata and Uruguay River landscapes. The course's open wetlands, tree belts and water features give the resort setting a character quite different from Uruguay's traditional urban golf clubs.
