Overview: Cardiff Golf Club is a parkland course in the northern suburbs of the Welsh capital. The 18-hole layout plays to par 70 and measures about 6,090 yards, with tree-lined fairways, a winding stream and a mixture of long holes and shorter positional tests. Its enclosed setting gives the course a quiet character despite being inside the city boundary.
History: The club was formed in 1921 on farmland known as Ty-To-Maen. Robert Walker, the first professional, worked with a small committee to design the initial layout, which opened in 1922. The land was later purchased from Welsh rugby international Ewan Davies on favourable terms, helping keep a golf course within Cardiff's boundaries.
Did You Know? In 1928 Robert Walker and Bill Smalldon hosted an exhibition involving Gene Sarazen and Joe Kirkwood. The event connected a young Cardiff club with two of the leading professional golfers of the period and remains part of the club's recorded history.
