Overview: Canyata Golf Club is a private Michael Benkusky design in the Illinois countryside outside Marshall. The course was carved through former cornfields and uses woods, streams, bentgrass and shaped landforms to create an expansive, low-density golf landscape.
History: The first nine was in play by 2001 and the back nine followed in 2004, establishing the full 18-hole course. Canyata was created by the Forsythe family as a private golf setting rather than a conventional daily-fee development.
Did You Know? The name is pronounced can-YAY-tuh, and the club's deliberately private origin is part of what makes its remote Illinois setting feel so distinctive.
