Overview: Real Club La Moraleja Course 2 is an 18-hole private parkland layout in Alcobendas, north of Madrid. The course occupies the same residential estate as Course 1 but has a different scale and emphasis. The official club describes a once-open tract of land that has matured into a wooded, undulating setting, with larger greens and a greater role for distance than on the shorter first course. Four large lakes influence six holes, creating strategic decisions that are not solved simply by avoiding the water. The routing asks for a good balance between length and placement, especially when a lake changes the angle into a green or narrows the preferred landing area. Its parkland character comes from the combination of mature planting, broad fairways, shaped ground and water rather than from one single visual feature.
History: Real Club La Moraleja was founded in 1973, and the land for Course 2 was purchased in 1989. The design was assigned to Golden Bear, the Jack Nicklaus firm, under the direction of golf architect Ron Kirby. Course 2 was officially opened in 1990, extending the club's original Madrid-area facility with a longer and more wooded test. The course hosted the World Cup of Golf in 1992, when the United States team of Davis Love III and Fred Couples won. Later events, including the 2006 Madrid Open, reinforced the course's role within the club's tournament history.
Did You Know? The transformation of Course 2's site is part of its architectural story. The club describes land that originally had very few trees becoming a wooded course over time, so the mature landscape seen today is not simply inherited scenery. It is the result of years of growth working alongside Kirby's routing, lakes and green complexes.
