Overview: Calusa Pines is a private Naples course by Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry, built on a deliberately shaped piece of South Florida ground. The layout is known for firm, fast Bermuda surfaces, broad strategic lines, and an unusual amount of movement for the region. Mounds, sandy waste areas, water, and sharply defined greens give the course a more inland and rugged character than its location might suggest.
History: Calusa Pines opened in 2001 as a modern private course designed to use manufactured elevation and strong landforms rather than a flat residential template. Hurdzan and Fry built a routing with varied par-three lengths and reachable par fours, asking players to decide when to challenge a hole and when to use the safer ground route.
Did You Know? Calusa Pines is known for having some of the firmest and fastest Bermuda fairways and greens in Florida. That surface changes the course's strategy: a shot can run well beyond its landing point, making the correct angle as important as the club selection.
