Overview: Cairns Golf Club is a central Far North Queensland golf stop, only minutes from the Cairns centre and surrounded by tropical vegetation and mountain views. The club describes the current venue as a modern 18-hole championship course, open for social play seven days a week. The setting brings heat, humidity, rain and changing ground conditions into the strategy. Water, trees and the need to judge the ball in tropical air make it a different experience from a dry inland parkland course.
History: Golf Australia dates the club to 1923, while the club's own archive records the reconstruction and opening of the new 18-hole course in 1948. A further redesign programme began in the second half of the 1980s after Ross Watson was commissioned to prepare a design plan. The work was completed in stages over roughly a decade, so the current course carries both the club's older Cairns story and a later design framework.
Did You Know? Cairns Golf Club has a full-length floodlit driving range as well as a fleet of motorised carts and a modern clubhouse. That combination matters in a tropical destination because it gives travelling golfers a practical place to warm up, play a full round and finish the day without needing to leave the city area.
