Overview: Cabot Links is a true seaside links course on Cape Breton’s Gulf of St. Lawrence coast, with the village of Inverness on one side and the beach and ocean on the other. Rod Whitman’s 18-hole routing uses firm-running links ground, sandy soil, undulating terrain and broad coastal views. Cabot’s official course page notes that five holes sit directly beside the beach, giving the course an unusually intimate relationship with the shoreline.
History: The course opened on June 29, 2012 after a methodical construction period that began in the late 2000s. Whitman, Dave Axland and Keith Cutten worked together on the project, shaping a course that helped turn Inverness into an international golf destination. Cabot Links was the first course in the wider Cabot Cape Breton complex; Cabot Cliffs and the 11-hole Nest are separate identities and are not folded into this profile.
Did You Know? The opening holes reach the ocean quickly, and the official hole descriptions emphasise how wind, sandy ground and the shoreline change the value of familiar links shots. The 14th is a short par three to an infinity green overlooking the water, while the 18th is designed as a long par four beside the coast. Those bookends explain why Cabot’s appeal is strategic as well as scenic.
