Cabanillas Golf

Overview: Cabanillas Golf is an 18-hole par-72 course in Cabanillas del Campo, just outside Guadalajara and roughly half an hour from Madrid. The course guide lists 6,501 metres from the white tees, approximately 7,104 yards, while current club information describes a layout with nine-hole and 18-hole playing options. The course occupies open parkland and uses water, trees and broad fairway corridors to give the round a varied rhythm. Its proximity to the capital makes it relevant to Madrid golf trips, but the setting remains spacious and rural rather than urban.

History: Cabanillas is an unusual two-part design. The first nine is associated with Manuel Piñero, while the later nine was developed with Stirling & Martin, giving the full course two related but distinguishable design voices. Recent Spanish golf-course association material describes the club as an important centre-region venue with around 400 members and about 30,000 rounds a year. The facility also includes a separate nine-hole pitch-and-putt, so the short course remains a distinct part of the property rather than a second name for the championship layout.

Did You Know? Water is one of the course’s defining features rather than a decorative afterthought. The club’s own description highlights the lake as a central element of the layout, and the changing relationship between the lake, landing areas and approach shots gives several holes their strategy. The lake is especially important because it changes the visual width of the landing zones: a line that looks generous from the tee can leave a more demanding angle into the green, making Cabanillas a course where route planning matters as much as raw length.
