History: Paul Butler created the club on the former York Country Club property in the early 1970s. George Fazio designed the course, while his nephew Tom Fazio supervised construction; the layout was completed in time to host the Western Open from 1974 through 1990. That tournament history made Butler a central part of Chicago professional golf, and the course's original Fazio identity remains the foundation of the club today.

Did You Know? Butler National hosted the Western Open for 17 editions before the event moved away from Oak Brook. The tournament years established the course as one of the Chicago area's most exacting professional tests long before modern rankings made it widely known.
