Buenavista Golf

Overview: Buenavista Golf occupies the northwestern tip of Tenerife, where the Teno landscape meets the Atlantic. Seve Ballesteros designed an 18-hole coastal course that fits into a rugged setting of cliffs, volcanic ground, native vegetation and sea views. The routing is not simply a series of holes beside the water. It moves between open coastal stretches and more sheltered inland sections, using changes in wind, elevation and sightline to vary the challenge. Lakes and carefully shaped greens add definition, while the surrounding natural park keeps the course feeling separate from the built-up resort areas farther south on the island.

History: The course opened in 2003 as part of the development of Buenavista del Norte's golf destination. Ballesteros's design was intended to respect the terrain of the Teno Rural Park and to make the Atlantic setting part of the strategy rather than a distant view. The course has since become one of Tenerife's most distinctive golf venues because the original design idea remains clear: a relatively compact site can still produce a varied round when the land, cliffs and prevailing conditions are allowed to shape the holes.

Did You Know? The lakes on holes 9 and 18 are linked by waterfalls, creating one of the course's most memorable visual details. It is a small piece of engineering that fits the wider landscape, because the water feature connects the beginning and end of the closing nine without turning the course into a heavily ornamental resort garden.
