Overview: The West Course at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs is a resort layout in the Cheyenne Mountain foothills. Its architectural history combines Donald Ross's original Broadmoor work with Robert Trent Jones Sr.'s later holes and revisions, producing a course with mountain views, broad fairways and changing elevation. The setting makes the air, slopes and sightlines part of every club decision.
History: Donald Ross designed the original 18-hole course for The Broadmoor, dating from 1918. Robert Trent Jones Sr. returned in the 1960s to design nine new holes and revise nine Ross holes; the resulting West Course dates from the mid-1960s as part of the resort's expanded golf complex.
Did You Know? The original Broadmoor course opened at about 6,400 feet above sea level. The West Course therefore carries a design history that began with one of Ross's highest golf settings and continued through Jones's expansion into a modern two-course resort facility.
