Boavista Golf & Spa

Overview: Howard Swan’s Boavista Golf presents a par-71 journey over 18 holes on the western edge of Lagos, where Howard Swan used the natural contours of the site to create two contrasting halves. The Resort section works through more developed ground and water features, while the Country side rises into open terrain with ravines, lakes, and views toward the Bay of Lagos. It changes elevation and atmosphere as it crosses the property, asking for accurate lines from the tee and careful distance control on sloping approaches.

History: Boavista opened for play in 2002 and was developed around an old farm landscape that included existing buildings and natural features. Swan’s design aimed to preserve the shape of the land instead of imposing a flat resort template, which is why the two sections feel different. Contemporary coverage records lakes, cascades, and ravine holes as central parts of the original routing rather than later decoration.

Did You Know? The sixth and eighth holes use a natural ravine to create a dramatic change in level, while the closing hole returns to the settled resort side. The course leaves the built landscape, climbs into wilder ground, and comes back toward the clubhouse. Its variety comes from the land’s existing folds, not from a collection of unrelated set pieces.
