Blue Sapphire Golf & Resort (Canyon)

Overview: Blue Sapphire's Canyon Course is the A and B combination at a 36-hole golf resort in Chong Dan, Kanchanaburi. The 18-hole routing was shaped around the remains of an open-cast sapphire mine, where excavated ground, steep edges and water-filled workings provide the course's strongest visual and strategic features. The longest published tee figure is about 7,002 yards and the course plays to par 72. Fairways move across uneven ground between lakes and rocky slopes, while the frequent changes in elevation make club selection as important as direction. The setting feels more like a landscape course than a conventional flat resort layout.

History: The resort was built on former sapphire-mining land after the extraction activity had ended. Designers Steven Youdan and Art-anan Yomchinda used the abandoned mine's pits, lakes and ridges as the foundation for two separate 18-hole routings: Canyon, made from A and B, and Ocean, made from the C and D sides in the current course records. Sources place the first operating period around 2002 or 2003, so the profile keeps the date open rather than presenting a disputed year as certain. The mine-to-golf transformation remains the defining historical fact.

Did You Know? The facility's name is not only a resort theme. The lakes and rock formations were inherited from sapphire mining, and the Canyon routing uses those remnants as playing features. That is why the same round can move from tree-lined fairway to exposed water and quarry-like ground without leaving the resort property.
