Blairgowrie Golf Club (Lansdowne)

Overview: Blairgowrie's Lansdowne Course is a modern Perthshire heathland layout among Scots pine, heather and open sandy ground. Peter Alliss and Dave Thomas used the natural character of the Blairgowrie estate to create a full 18-hole course with broad corridors, changes in elevation and greens that reward a well-chosen approach. The setting is inland, but the firm turf and heath vegetation encourage the player to think about angle and bounce rather than simply sending the ball through the air.

History: Blairgowrie Golf Club was formed in 1889, but Lansdowne is the newer of the club's two championship courses. The official heritage page identifies it as a 1970s design by Peter Alliss and Dave Thomas, with the directory recording 1979 for the current routing. It sits alongside Rosemount, whose earlier history includes Alister MacKenzie and James Braid. The two courses give Blairgowrie a layered architectural story, with Lansdowne providing the later, more spacious interpretation of the heathland.

Did You Know? The name Lansdowne has an older chapter at Blairgowrie. The original Lansdowne course later became Rosemount, while the present Lansdowne was built in the 1970s by Alliss and Thomas. That means the same club carries two different Lansdowne identities, one rooted in the early 20th century and one created for a later generation of championship play.
