Blackmoor Golf Club

Overview: Blackmoor is a classic Hampshire heathland course, shaped by sandy ground, heather, pine, birch and oak. Its two loops of nine move through a naturally varied landscape where the fairways can look inviting but the approach angles are rarely simple. The course is not defined by length alone: Colt’s raised greens, strategic bunkers and subtle doglegs ask for accuracy, imagination and a reliable low-risk plan.

History: Blackmoor was established in 1913 and was originally laid out by Harry Colt. Sixteen holes still carry clear traces of his design, a continuity the club has preserved while maintaining the course for modern play. From 1998 to 2003 it served as a regional qualifying venue for The Open, bringing international players to this quiet corner of Hampshire.

Did You Know? Blackmoor is one of the courses included in the 2008 publication Creating Classics, which examines Harry Colt’s work. The Selborne Salver has been played in its present form since 1976 and has attracted leading amateur and international players.
