Bishops Gate Golf Club

Overview: Bishops Gate Golf Club in Howey-in-the-Hills is an unusual 11-hole Lloyd Clifton design that can be played as a nine- or 18-hole experience. Dual tee boxes and alternate pin positions stretch the full routing to about 6,700 yards and create a strategic, Old-Florida course beside Lake Harris.

History: The course opened in 1987 under the Bella Vista Golf & Yacht Club identity, later becoming Sarabande Country Club and then Bishops Gate. A 2012–13 renovation converted the property into an 11-hole training-focused facility while retaining the ability to produce an 18-hole round.

Did You Know? Bishops Gate has eleven physical holes but most golfers think of it as an 18-hole course because seven holes have two teeing areas and eight greens have two pin positions. That design makes the second pass feel less repetitive than a simple replay.
