Belmont Country Club

Overview: Belmont Country Club is a private Donald Ross course in Belmont, Massachusetts, set on gently rolling ground near the Boston suburbs. The parkland routing uses mature trees, careful fairway positioning and Ross-influenced greens to create a course that feels traditional without relying on great length. Later work has updated the playing surfaces while maintaining the original architectural framework.

History: Willard Robinson laid out a nine-hole course in 1909 and then acquired enough land for Donald Ross to design an 18-hole course known as Belmont Springs Country Club. The current club was renamed Belmont Country Club in 1943, with later remodels by Orrin Smith, Alfred Tull and Craig Schreiner shaping the present course.

Did You Know? An estimated 7,000 spectators watched Harry Vardon and Ted Ray defeat Francis Ouimet and James Guildford at Belmont in a 36-hole exhibition match in 1920. The event is part of the club's unusually strong early tournament history.
